The math used is mostly algebra and light calculus except for the chapter on special functions. I read this book after reading "Great Wyoming Bear Stories" (which was actually written after this book, and is intended to be a companion piece) and really enjoyed the stories and writing that Ben Long employed in this collection. The nation is divided less into geographical boundaries and more into its clans, which may intermingle somewhat in location. Too many people want bells and whistles that increase download time with no upside reward.
